Coldplay return with free single
Coldplay are back with a free download and a couple of free shows. Expect Coldplay mania to be all over our "alternative" music press in the coming weeks as they plug their new album.
The free download comes courtesy of the band themselves at their website. Send in your email address and they'll send you an email with the MP3 of 'Violet Hill' attached.
They have also announced that they'll be playing two free gigs, one at Brixton Academy in London on Monday 16th June and another at New York's Madison Square Garden on 23rd June. Details for tickets will be posted on their website in due course.
The album Viva La Vida will be released on June 16th in the UK and a day later in the US and like its predecessor X&Y has been produced by Brian Eno.
'Violet Hill' to my ears feels exactly like X&Y, same old boring music for Q readers. Still I'm sure there are many who will like this song. It is atmospheric and all but the problem for me is that the Coldplay template of building to an emotional climax is now wearing a bit thin. Still what do I know, download it for yourself and make your own mind up.
