South's fee goes up in smoke

English band South were burned at SXSW recently when they played a show for Camel Cigarettes, only to have their £10,000 fee withheld due to an unfortunate remark made from the stage.

The English band who, by all accounts, are pretty big in the States were due to play a corporate show at SXSW for Camel Cigarettes.  Seeing a pretty girl in the crowd with a camel tattoo on her arm, lead singer Joel joked, "Don't smoke, it's bad for you".

Needless to say, the cigarette boffins at Camel were not too pleased and decided to not pay them for their hard work.  And of course, seeing as this is in America, a legal battle is now raging between the band's representatives and Camel.

But the best thing about this is that Joel is a smoker himself.  It seems that Americans still don't get British humour.

South have a new album You Are Here due for release in June.  Check out their myspazz too.
